What you are asking is either where the files of the whole website system are stored on your hosting space, or the file you can use to edit the layout of the website.
The web folder in your hosting account is usually called www, public_html or httpdocs
To edit the layout of the website itself, you need to understand first if you you haven’t realised already, that Joomla uses a template system to control the layout. There are 2-3 different templates that are included in the basic Joomla CMS system, which you can switch between as you wish, by findind the Template manager (either under Site or Extensions (depends on which version you are using)).
To access the folder for each template, you just go into the folder called /templates in your Joomla system files, and then click the folder which holds the name of the template you are currently using (the one checked as Default, in the Template Manager).
You can find lots of free templates for both versions of Joomla (1 or 1.5) all over the internet, by using Google. You usually get it delivered (or download it) as .zip files, which you can install directly into the Joomla system, and then just go into Template manager to make it Default, and voila, your joomla website has just totally changed appearance ;)
    Hope this helps.

    Joomla is a database-driven content management system, so there isn’t a static index.html, default.html, home.html, etc.
The main entry point is index.php in the installation root directory, but it just launches the CMS engine and doesn’t contain the contents of the home page.
What displays as the site home page is determined by the first published item on the main menu (mainmenu), accessible via the administrative backend.
