You will get hacked.
ALL versions of Joomla prior to 1.5.6 have a fatal security hole. It was exploited on my site within a few days of its being discovered, and I had to recover from backups.
UPDATE NOW.
I am an admin of a security website. We have a webcrawler bot that is able to hunt for weak websites. If you have unpatched or insecure php files on your site I can promise you that you will be hacked soon by someone. The larger the site the faster it will come, Joomla is free to upgrade so I recommend you upgrade and take on any problems you make have during upgrade since losing the whole site is a lot worse than just losing a few features or functions you may have set up on your website.
