Need Help About Change The Joomla! Templates Graphic?

February 14, 2010 under FAQ

Hey, can anyone help me do step by step of how to change the picture on the joomla! templates? I have downloaded some templates. Should I change it from the joomla file folder I put on the local server (I’m using WAMP), or change it from the template manager on the CSS part? How to change the ‘unwritable’ parameter to ‘writeable’ for joomla! 1.5?
Thank’s

Be sure to make a BACKUP of your template first, once you change it, it’s cut in stone.
You better know HTML, but you can do a lot with Joomla here.
    log in as admin
    template manager
    site template
select the template you are working with
    edit html

    To answer your question directly:
The template once in Joomla has to be either edited within Joomla or edited ‘offline’ and then reinstalled. Obviously the first is simpler.
So assuming you are logged in as the administrator to the Joomla backend, you can edit these files through the menu. However to directly change the Images I recommend that you have installed the extension joomlaXplorer to allow you to access files direcly within Joomla.
This is a file manager which gives better capabilities for file manipulation - like uploading a new image. Once installed locate the directory with the name of the template you wish to edit. This is situated in the ‘templates’ directory with your Joomla installation.
Now find the image you wish to replace in the ‘images’ folder. Use the upload button of joomlaXplorer to upload the new image and remember to select overwrite!
Also remember to check the html of the template incase the image size is hardcoded eg. width=”200px” Again use joomlaXplorer as it can be easier if jumping around various files.
