Joomla-whenever I Try To Edit A Link In Any Article, When I Click “add/edit Links” I Get A 404 Error Message?

August 9, 2009 under FAQ

I have joomla 1.5.5 with the 1.5.8 patch. I think it has something to do with htaccess code, but I’m not really sure about everything I have to do to change it. I am really new to joomla, so please explain it like you’re talking to a total luddite. Thanks.

The most likely cause of this is an incomplete upgrade. Check your file permissions and try doing the upgrade again. Add/edit links is not usually affected by htaccess so unless you changed your htaccess after you did the upgrade then this wont be the problem.
If you did change the htaccess file after you upgraded then you should replace the file with the one you backed up before you upgraded (you did backup - right?) or download the complete 1.5.8 package and use the htaccess file from that.
If all your files are present and the htaccess is the same as the one used in 1.5.8, and you still have a problem, post as much information about this as you can on the Joomla forums so people can help troubleshoot the problem.
