Joomla Question: Can You Suggest Me An Extension To Check Who And From Where Visits My Site?
August 4, 2009 under FAQ
Every extension adds to server load and none of the current extensions for either Joomla 1.0 or 1.5 tracks visitor statistics effectively.
The best way to get this kind of information is by signing up for one of the free web site analytics programs (such as Google Analytics). When you create an account you will receive some code to place on your site.
Go to your template’s index.php file and look for the closing tag. Copy the code you receive from Google Analytics and paste it directly above the tag. Save your template file (and if you have had to edit it offline, upload the saved file back to your site).
The code you have added to your template’s index.php file will track your visitors on every page of your site. You will receive detailed reports on visitors movements, their networks, country of origin, and more when you log back into the analytics site. All the processing for this is done externally so collecting the information will not slow your own site down or add to server load.
