Joomla Help?

I have a few questions regarding Joomla:
1.) What version should I download?
2.) Do I need a domian name registered to install it? I’ve been told that I need to download it to a database but I don’t exactly know how to do that.
3.) Do you recommend and Joomla resources for newbies like me to learn how to design web sites with it?

If you want to run it locally, just d/l it to a machine that is running an apache web server and has mysql db installed. This is pretty easy on a Mac, you only need to install mysql. Not so easy on Windows.
If you want it on the internet, you can find various hosting services that will give you the domain and install joomla for you.
Just do a search for ‘joomla hosting’.
Check your local bookstore, or amazon, there are a few Joomla books that detail how to install it and use it. I started with ‘Beginning Joomla: From Novice to Professional’ by Dan Rahmel on APress.
Most everything out there documentation wise is for Joomla 1.1.x. 1.5 is brand new.
Joomla is a content management system and is very easy to use.
You can download it and intall a local server on your windows PC to learn how to use it.
