Yes you can do it ! Install both templates and set the main template as “default”. Then assign the second template to any pages you want. You can assign as many templates as you want.
I wouldn’t do that if I were you as it may confuse your visitors. In my opinion this solution is only acceptable if you choose to have the same design with different colors for each topic.
If you just want to change the layout (keeping the same design) you can play around with the modules, showing/hiding them according to your needs.
