what is it exactly?
Let me add another recommendation. I think it would be better to set it up locally (on your machine) before sending it out live. It’s easier to correct and rerun when it’s local.

The install package comes with instructions (I think) which will walk you through the process, but unless your hosting provider offers you Fantastico (an easy installer for applications like Joomla) in their control panel, you’ll need to at least create the database yourself.
The process essentially involves uploading the package to your server, unpacking it, creating the database, and running the install script (usually INSTALL.PHP in the files you extracted). Not sure what else I can tell you that would help. Good luck!
Which hosting are you using?
Most Linux hosting companies provide you with various add ons.. . which help in installing open source software such as Joomla, PHPbb, wordpress and so on… take for example http://www.redonhost.com which offers c panel along with fantastico which installs joomla in just a click.
If you’ve already got hosting and don’t have something like fantastico then you can just goto PhpMyAdmin and create a database first then follow the instructions in the step by step joomla installation.
Another advantage of using the installation provided by your host is that these have many components pre-installed, but when you install the software yourself, its just a blank site and you need to build it from scratch.
