You should have a file called index.php which is used as the most basic framework for every page on your site. That file will contain some HTML - but mostly Joomla code - which you can use to add the Analytics code.
The proper place to add the Analytics code is at the end of the HTML document, just above the tag. Before you add the code to your site, take a minute to exclude yourself from the Analytics results so that you will only see your visitors’ traffic.
