I have a client who is a designer but not a webdeveloper and needs me to set up the joomla site as I know the back end. How much do you think is a reasonable amount to charge for this work

    1000$ one off.
He won’t need you afterwords, cos he can adapt it himself.

You may contact a joomla programmer at http://moonlit.co.in/ .

How long is a piece of string??
A difficult question to answer as it will depend on many things. You could be an ace at setting up a joomla site but it is no good quoting high amounts per hour/day if it is unlikely the client would pay that amount!
If you are a professional, presumably you’ve already worked out your charge rate for other types of work so that could be a starting point.
Best to talk to the client. It may be worth your while to quote a lower charge rate if it is likely that the client will give you more work in the future and/or refer you to other clients.
    Good luck!

imwebdev is right - depending on client needs setting up Joomla can be very involved and take up a lot of time.
The first thing you need to do is find out EXACTLY what your client wants. Most clients don’t want a simple web install and often expect the install to be secured, configured to their requirements, and often also want their site structure set up.
So, before you start setting a price you first need to ascertain the exact requirements of the job.

    Hi,
I have setup Joomla sites for years. Many people think you can configure a Joomla website simply by clicking install! But if you want a very good system that your client can use, there is a lot more to it. I.e. Setting up the Template (sometimes creating this from scratch yourself), finding the correct components/modules/mambots and configuring these components/modules/mambots.
You also have to do things such as set new module positions, write the CSS (if this is not done for you), and optimise the site with Metatags, SEO components etc.
If you want to do a half decent job, I suggest charge a couple of hours and just install the software and nothing else. If you want to do a very good job, take your time and setup the site correctly. Add components that will optimise the site usage for the client a bit more, such as a Search Engine Friendly URL component, and a better WYSIWYG editor.
I also tend to write custom Tutorials for my clients (depending on their budget and skill level).
So as another contributor has said, how long is a piece of string? It all depends on your hourly rate and the budget of the client.
Dont under charge yourself, as you will have to stick to this rate for future projects if that client refers you on to someone else!
Hope that info helps a little bit

£75 ($150) I believe you should charge maximum as it shouldn’t take long. Also it doesn’t involve you actually creating anything, which would be unique for the client.
If you charge anymore than that the client can easily go to anyone else for it cheaper.
    Cheers
