You are able to upload the Joomla! zipped/tar file directly to your root directory. If you use C-Panel, open the directory explorer and right-click the compressed file and choose extract.
You can also extract the file locally on your machine and FTP them individually up to your server if you have access this way, but be warned, it may take some time depending on your line speed.

First, extract .zip or .tar.gz file locally into a new directory on your local computer and then upload that directory recursively onto your host using your favorite FTP program.
After that, use your hosting control panel to create or choose database and follow Joomla browser installation instructions.
Good luck !
