Designing A Graphic Design Site With Joomla?
January 20, 2010 under FAQ
Hello,
I am a graphic designer and am hoping to get some advice on the best open source software to create my graphic design site with. I was considering using Joomla, would this be the best way to go or are there better open source solutions out there?
I basically want to show my portfolio of work but want to ensure that the site appears high in Google and is user friendly and easy to update..
Thanks for any help in advance

For what you describe as your intended use for the site, Joomla would be overkill and give you a headache to get set up for just a gallery, about me page, and contact form.
See what your hosting provider offers. If it is no good for what you want, there are plenty of options out there.
For the Mac, I recommend RapidWeaver ($79) It is a great template driven application that allows extensive customization options and plenty of third party plug-in support.

Since I do most of my design on a Mac, I don’t want to speak for the best Windows application for the job.
If I were you, I would use something like WordPress.com. I know it’s not open source, but in my experience, and I’ve used both WordPress.com and Joomla, WordPress.com is far better and easier to use than Joomla.
