Joomla is a PHP application.
Joomla! is a so called Content Management System (CMS). A CMS is a PHP ‘application’ with that you can easily set up your own homepage. The special thing is: Content and design is separated. In order to make a suitable homepage you’ll need some time to get into the thing.
