Yes. If you know what you’re doing, you can create amazing websites with only the tools you listed.
as a wise man once said, ‘guns don’t kill people, i do’. in other words, the power is not in the tool it’s in the hands of the person with the tool.
the technologies you have indicated you know, are the foundation of sound web design. i would not worry too much about things like drupal, joomla, etc other than to understand they exist and what situations they might be right to use.
software development is not just about knowing a particular language - that’s coding. development means having the knowledge to understand what tool is better to use in a certain situation. i would suggest only adding a couple of things right now to your knowledge base - 1) webservices 2) using the .net framework for web development.
it sounds like you have the right mix already, just keep you eyes open for other technologies that may apply better for different situations. good luck
to be a good web designer.. you will need several things..
first you need to know the concepts (web 2.0 per example) and have a style in design.. and then you will need to know the technologies (example: flash, silverlight,asp.net, php, css ) and finally you will need to tools to do it ( example: Expression Web, dreamweaver, Adobe photoshop)..
to be a designer is like to be a Driver… the type of the car wont define how you design.. once you’re a good driver you will simply drive any car that you want … :o)
as for the joomla… etc.. these are ready made engines that has modules already made for you that you can save a lot of time by re-using them instead of building them from scratch..
so short answer.. you can design whatever you want even on paper.. and then you can check which tools and technologies that you would feel comfortable using them.
