Adding A “enter” “exit” Home Page To A Joomla Website?

January 14, 2010 under FAQ

Hi there, I am looking to add a front page to a joomla website. I would like to post a disclaimer about being over the age of 18 on the page, and then give the user the option to click onto enter the site, or exit to leave. I am no expert in webdesign but I have a fairly good knowledge of joomla. Any help in the simplest of forms would be greatly appreciated?

    Hello,
This is easier than you think. Joomla, by default provides an index.php on the root installation. So, when you enter e.g: http://webdesign-boston.com/ it actually looks for and appends index.php after the forward slash - If you did have an index.html however, then the browser will append the index.html instead of index.php.
So all you have to do is create an index.html file, put your disclaimers there and upload it to the root folder of your joomla installation. It is that simple.
One thing you need to be careful about is that after you use index.html your logo which is most probably pointing to http://yoursite.com/ will also go to index.html so make sure you change that to index.php - you don’t want your visitors going back to the disclaimer page after they have already entered the site.
    Good luck!!!
